Converted farm sheds opened as a curling rink in 1989

The idea of a Forfar curling centre came in 1989, when the sale of the Dundee-Angus Ice Rink for a supermarket site threatened to leave the area without curling facilities. A local businessman, Mr Bonnyman, bought agricultural storage sheds at Suttieside and converted them into an ice rink. Construction started in April 1989 and the rink opened on 30 September that year.

Mr Roy Sinclair, then President of the RCCC, officially opened the new rink. An indoor bowling stadium was built beside it, sharing bar and toilet facilities with the curlers, and Forfar Indoor Sports Ltd, owned by the Bonnyman family, was established to fund the project.

The sports centre was sold in 2009 to local businessman and past RCCC Chairman Mike Ferguson, who with his wife Sandra has since expanded the sports and services, taking over Frosty's Soft Play Centre next to the buildings.
