Opened by John Curry in 1988

Hull Arena, first called the Humberside Ice Arena, was slow to arrive: planning disputes held up construction between 1982 and 1986. Queen Elizabeth II unveiled the building's ceremonial cornerstone on 18 July 1987, and former Olympic figure skating champion John Curry opened it on 14 September 1988.

The rink is an Olympic-size pad of 60 by 30 metres, the only one of its size in the region, and it can be boarded over for concerts and major events with room for up to 3,750 people. The Arctic Monkeys have played here, and the 2011 World Masters darts tournament was held in the building. It closed in March 2020 for a £1.55million refurbishment that laid a new ice pad and added new lighting and sound, and the council put its visitors at about 147,000 a year when it reopened in 2021.

Every ice hockey team the city has had has played here, from the Humberside Seahawks and Hull Thunder to the Elite League's Hull Stingrays. Today the Hull Seahawks and the Hull Jets play in the National Ice Hockey League, alongside the Kingston Diamonds, one of the largest female ice hockey clubs in the United Kingdom, recreational teams and a junior figure skating club.
