Kalamazoo's 1974 arena, home of the ECHL's Kalamazoo Wings, with two more sheets added in 1989 and 1997.
Wings Event Center opened in 1974 as Wings Stadium, a 5,113-seat multi-purpose arena in Kalamazoo, and it is still home to the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL. In March 2015 it took its current name to market the building's other hosting capabilities to companies and promoters.
The complex grew into three sheets. In 1989 the Valley, formerly the Annex, was added with seating for 1,367 for hockey and up to 2,850 for other events, and the Zoo, formerly the Cube, followed in 1997 for hockey and trade shows. The main arena anchors a sports and convention complex serving southwest Michigan: it seats up to 6,323 for concerts and offers 17,000 square feet of trade show and exhibit space, with four concession stands, two bars along the concourse and the Underground Sports Bar.
Beyond hockey it has hosted concerts and pro wrestling from WWE and Ring of Honor, including a World Wrestling Federation Superstars taping on April 8, 1992. Public skating, learn to skate and the Greater Kalamazoo Skating Association share the ice with the Wings.
