A permanent refrigerated rink added to Red Arrow Park in December 1999; it becomes the park plaza in summer
Currently out of season The Milwaukee County Parks page for Slice of Ice in Red Arrow Park shows "Closed for the Season" under its hours and posts no 2026-27 opening date; the County describes its outdoor rinks as open when the weather allows. Official schedule update
Red Arrow Park opened to the public in 1970, and its 9,000-square-foot permanent ice rink, called Slice of Ice, was added in December 1999 as part of the park's redevelopment. The rink can hold 100 or more skaters at a time, and underground coils keep the ice frozen when temperatures reach the low 40s. The park sits across from the Milwaukee Performing Arts Center.
Twenty thousand to 25,000 skaters visit every season, from lunch-hour skaters practicing dance routines to toddlers and high school kids on dates. Opening and closing days depend entirely on the weather, and when the ice is gone the rink becomes the park plaza, enjoyed by tens of thousands more in summer. As of 2019, a Starbucks in the warming house served hot drinks.
