Opened in 1996 with a 200-by-100-foot indoor sheet; its rink floor was rebuilt in 2021
The Champlin Ice Forum opened in 1996 as a controversial public works project, and the entire city council was voted out that year. The main rink is a 200 by 100 foot indoor surface with dasher boards, tempered glass and six team rooms, and a second sheet sits outdoors.
A full roof replacement came in 2020. In the summer of 2021 the city rebuilt the rink floor with new piping, plumbing, concrete and insulation, poured a new floor, installed new ice plant equipment and planned new boards before skaters returned that fall.
The Champlin Park Youth Hockey Association, Champlin Park boys' hockey and the Champlin Park/Coon Rapids girls' high school team call the forum home. The city has also partnered with Front Burner Sports & Entertainment to explore a naming-rights partner for the building.
