Beside Carlington's nearly 60-year-old community centre

Alexander Park Outdoor Rink is the ice in Alexander Park, next to the Alexander Community Centre, a facility that was nearly 60 years old in 2026 and serves the Carlington and Central Park communities. The ice is a rink with a puddle, and the community centre offers public change space for skaters.

The building beside the rink is changing. On February 5, 2025, the Carlington community celebrated the City investment in the expansion and renovation of the Alexander Community Centre. By October 2025 the upgrade project included a gym three times the size of the current one, and the plan calls for doubling the centre's capacity so it can host over 100,000 people annually, with more after-school programming and seasonal camps. A public information session in February 2026 set out the work: renovate and expand the existing centre with a new full-size gymnasium and associated support spaces.

The park around the rink hosted a community day in autumn 2025. Alexander Park Day on Saturday, September 27, 2025 brought a halal barbecue, a three-on-three basketball tournament, a fire truck visit, a bouncy castle, yoga classes and soccer workshops to the park for families, friends and neighbours.
