Ottawa's sixth official outdoor hockey rink, from December 1926

Fisher Park opened on August 13, 1921, as the West End Municipal Association Playgrounds, introduced at the ceremony as Fisher Park after then-mayor Harold Fisher. A skating rink and toboggan slide were planned for the winter of 1920-21, and the rink started life in 1920 before becoming, in December 1926, the city's sixth official outdoor hockey rink. Lacrosse, bicycle polo and a nine-hole golf course were among the sports played in the park's early years.

The rink's first event came in February 1922, a Fancy Dress Carnival that drew 300 skaters in costume and 500 spectators. At its peak in the 1950s the Fisher Park carnival attracted 5,000 people for day-long games and races, with a parade of students from each of the local schools and a fireworks display in the evening.

From the beginning Fisher Park was planned as a combined school and community centre, the first of its kind in Canada; the first sod was turned on May 3, 1948, and the school was completed for the start of the 1949-50 school year. Today the City of Ottawa lists the rink as community-maintained, a rink with puddle, with seasonal boards and permanent lights and a trailer as the on-site facility.
