Centrepointe's volunteer-flooded community rink, next to the splash pad, run by self-described rink elves
For the latest skating dates, check the rink’s official information.
Centrepointe Park Outdoor Rink sits at the west end of Centrepointe Park, next to the splash pad, and is a community rink rather than a City-run one. Unlike the refrigerated rinks the City of Ottawa maintains, such as the one in front of Ben Franklin Place, this ice exists because Centrepointe volunteers build and maintain it every winter.
The rink is not refrigerated. It has seasonal boards and seasonal lights, a trailer serves as its building, and ice maintenance is done by the community. The Centrepointe Community Association's volunteers, who call themselves the rink elves, do the flooding and clearing. In the 2022-23 season a team led by Al Arseneult had the ice operational by January 16, 2023.
Through the 2024-25 season Kevin O'Shea and Jamie Small handled the snow clearing and ice maintenance, so families, friends and shinny players had a place to skate all winter. Each winter the neighbourhood comes together around the rink as a Canadian tradition.
