Rizzo Ice Rink sits at Front Street and Washington Avenue in South Philadelphia, under Interstate 95, and first opened in 1979. The site is named for Ralph R. Rizzo Sr., the father of former Mayor Frank Rizzo, and also has a fitness room and meeting room.
In 1987 the staff and advisory council made youth programs the rink's primary mission, and it has since brought instructional ice hockey to Philadelphia's young players for more than 30 years. Its hockey program serves boys and girls ages 5 to 13 and is purely instructional, aimed at the fundamentals; the Mites (8U) skate on Saturdays and Sundays.
It is one of five ice rinks run by Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, and its own site says public skating returns in November.
