A 1997 two-sheet arena, one NHL-size and one Olympic-size, and the home ice of Philadelphia Flyers Elite.
Pennsauken Skate Zone opened in 1997 as a 72,000-square-foot arena with two sheets of ice, one NHL-size and one Olympic-size. Black Bear Sports Group owns the building, which also holds a snack stand and party space used for group outings and field trips.
The rink is the home ice of Philadelphia Flyers Elite, the Tier I youth club whose players wear and represent the Flyers brand. The club keeps its own quarters inside the arena: locker rooms reserved for its teams, a shooting room, and a gym for off-ice strength and conditioning. Its youngest teams are the Pennsauken Pilots, who skate half-ice at 6U and 8U and full-ice as an 8U AAA team.
Older players come through Black Bear National Academy, a Tier I program that fields 15U, 16U and 18U AAA teams from Black Bear's Philadelphia-area arenas and is the midget academy affiliate of the USHL's Youngstown Phantoms. Adults play here under Foundry Adult Hockey, which runs a learn-to-play program for players 18 and over who have never played, a novice draft league and leagues for all skill levels. Birthday parties are held during the public skating sessions.
