A 1965 wood-beam rink, once Valley Ice Arena, and the Portland Winterhawks' official practice facility
Winterhawks Ice Center in Beaverton was established in 1965 as Valley Ice Arena, and under that name it was part of the Portland-metro ice sports community for decades. The building is recognized for its distinctive wood-beam architecture and for its longstanding role as the official practice facility of the Portland Winterhawks.
The junior River City Jaguars originally played here at Valley Ice Arena; that franchise joined the NorPac in 2004, when the league was a Jr. B league. On January 1, 2021, the WHL Board of Governors approved Winterhawks Sports Group as the new owners of the Winterhawks franchise, and along with the team the group acquired the operations of the Winterhawks Skating Center in Beaverton and the Winterhawks Junior Hockey programs.
In 2024 Winterhawks Ice Center expanded by acquiring the Sherwood ice facility. Today the Beaverton rink continues to serve athletes, families and community members across a wide range of skating and hockey programs.
