Two NHL-size arenas and a five-sheet curling rink, rebuilt after Sylvan Lake's old arena roof collapsed.
The NexSource Centre grew out of an emergency: plans to renovate one of Sylvan Lake's ice arenas became urgent after the roof of the existing arena collapsed. The new space was attached to the multiplex's existing ice surface, which the collapse spared, and to the aquatic centre, making one community complex. In 2014 the NHL named Sylvan Lake Kraft Hockeyville, ahead of 15 other Canadian communities, and the prize money helped fund the redevelopment.
The building has two NHL-size arenas, including the upgraded 1,000-seat arena, and both host events all year. Its five-sheet curling rink takes weekend bonspiels as well as provincial and national events, and the 4,400-square-foot Diamond Valley Den overlooks both the curling rink and an arena. A three-lane indoor track, a pool with waterslides and a fitness centre share the building.
The Sylvan Lake Curling Club runs bonspiels through the winter, including a ladies' bonspiel in January.
