Open since 1984
Telford Ice Rink opened in October 1984, the year Torvill and Dean wowed the Winter Olympics with Bolero, and the BBC says it almost instantly became a key part of the town. It sits in the £250m Southwater complex in Telford town centre.
For about 25 years it was the base for competitive ice speedway, and over the decades it has hosted Disney galas and concerts including Status Quo and T'Pau. A £4m refurbishment in 2012, with a rebuilt ice-making room and a soft play area, was part of the wider Southwater development, and a temporary synthetic rink in Southwater Square filled in while it was closed.
The Telford Tigers of the National Ice Hockey League play their home games and train here, as the Telford Titans did from 2008 to 2014. The council says the rink draws visitors from across the region and from across the border in Wales.
