Home of the Solihull Barons since 1972

The ice rink on Hobs Moat Road, now Planet Ice Solihull, was the home of the original Solihull Barons from 1972 until 2000. The Barons had been formed in 1965, and when the team rebranded as the Solihull Blaze in 1996 and moved to Coventry's SkyDome in 2000, Solihull was left without an ice hockey team for the first time since 1965.

The Barons were reformed and returned to their original arena, which had benefited from a much-needed overhaul. The refurbishment was delayed by vandals, and the grand re-opening was postponed until mid-October 2000. The current team, the third incarnation of the Barons, was formed in 2005 and plays here.

The Mohawks Ice Racing Club also skates at the rink, and held its 90th anniversary celebration there on Sunday 9 November 2025. The club runs a four week course for new skaters, who can use hockey or figure skates or borrow speed skates.
