Named for two-time Olympic champion captain Cassie Campbell

Cassie Campbell Community Centre opened in September 2008, when the City of Brampton and Mayor Susan Fennell named a new recreation centre for one of the city’s own hockey players. Campbell grew up in Brampton playing for the Brampton Canadettes, and went on to captain Canada’s women’s team to Olympic gold at the 2002 Winter Olympics.

She wore the captaincy again in Turin in 2006, leading Canada to a second gold with a 4–1 win over Sweden. The building puts two ice rinks under the same roof as a lap pool, a leisure pool and an indoor running and walking track.

Brampton has since broken ground on an air-supported dome on the centre’s grounds that will cover a full-size turf field hockey field, part of an investment of more than CA$19 million.
