Opened as South Fletcher's Sportsplex in 1997
Susan Fennell Sportsplex opened on September 28, 1997, as South Fletcher's Sportsplex, a City of Brampton recreation centre offering registered and drop-in skating, swimming, sports and fitness programs from its first season. Susan Fennell, who sat on Brampton City Council from 1988 to 2014 and later served as mayor, has said she pushed to expand the original design from a one-rink building with a community room into a four-rink facility with a pool, gym and library. On September 30, 2020, City Council approved renaming the building in her honour.
The building is a four-pad municipal arena with a lap pool, leisure pool and gymnasium under the same roof. Brampton Hockey Inc. runs its Minor Development program on Pad 3, and the Caledon Minor Hockey Association lists the Sportsplex as a venue for its representative teams.
Renovation of the upper floor was finished by June 2020, adding a STEAM room, new multipurpose rooms and more program space. In September 2021 the city announced the Sportsplex would become Brampton's first zero-carbon building, the first step in a plan to retrofit all of its facilities.
