Scarborough's board-free Olympic-size figure skating rink, training home of Gilles and Poirier.
Centennial Recreation Centre in Scarborough is a multipurpose city facility whose ice rink, the Ice Galaxy, is a board-free, Olympic-size pad of 200 by 100 feet used only for figure skating. It has a mirrored wall, ice-level video, a jump harness and a heated glass viewing lounge.
The rink is home to the Scarboro Figure Skating Club, one of Canada's oldest, which celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2021, and the centre also houses springboard diving and underwater clubs.
The club is the training base of ice dancers Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier, who chose to train under Carol Lane at the Ice Galaxy for the 2011-12 season and won Olympic bronze in 2026. Juris Razgulajevs is an assistant director, coach and choreographer at the club.
