The largest arena in British Columbia outside Vancouver, home of the WHL's Victoria Royals
No public skating is posted for the next 7 days. New sessions show here as soon as the rink posts them.
Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre is the largest arena in British Columbia outside Vancouver. It was completed in 2005 and seats up to 7,400. It replaced the old Memorial Arena of 1949, known as the Barn on Blanshard for its rectangular shape and curved roof. The first event in the new arena was a Rod Stewart concert, at which Stewart and his performers came on stage in hard hats and orange safety vests, poking fun at the unfinished building.
The arena was developed and is operated by RG Properties Ltd., a Vancouver-based development and entertainment company. It was the home of the ECHL's Victoria Salmon Kings and is now the home of the Victoria Royals of the Western Hockey League. Besides hockey, it hosts concerts, figure skating, curling, plays, trade shows and conferences. It opens for public skating on special occasions, and fans once skated with Salmon Kings players after some games.
