Oak Park's year-round rink at Ridgeland Common

The Paul Hruby Ice Arena is the Park District of Oak Park's year-round, regulation-sized rink inside the Ridgeland Common Recreation Complex, which was first built in 1962. Talk of renovating the complex began in 2007, major work started in March 2013, and it reopened on June 14, 2014 as a Gold LEED Certified building.

The rebuild kept the old roof but replaced everything else, including the locker rooms, seating and the system that keeps the ice frozen, and it expanded the rink to official size, 85 by 200 feet. The arena gained a new grandstand, five locker rooms, theatrical lighting and a sound system for ice shows and public skates, along with an electric Zamboni that resurfaces the ice without fumes. Large windows face the street.

The rink is home to the District's figure skating and hockey classes for youth and adults, its co-ed Ice Bears travel teams in the Northwest Hockey League, and the Infinite Style synchronized skating team. In 2015 it also hosted Oak Park and River Forest and Fenwick high school games. Saturday nights are Cosmic Skate under disco lights, and monthly special events run from Teen Nights to Skate with Santa.
