Fifty years of park district ice

Franklin Park Ice Arena is a year-round indoor park district arena with a full sheet of ice and a smaller studio arena, used for figure skating, lessons, hockey, public skate, competitions and community events. It marked its 50th anniversary on September 7, 2024, with a public skate priced at 50 cents.

It is the home rink of the Leyden Eagles Hockey Club, a high school club drawing players from East and West Leyden, Elmwood Park, Niles North, Niles West, Northridge College Prep and Ridgewood, with Northridge Prep joining from the 2026-27 season. For 2025-26 its varsity team played in the Illinois High School Hockey League's North-Central Gold division.

The park district's own Panther program runs Gold teams from Mites through Midgets in the Northwest Hockey League, playing half their games at Franklin Park, and fields all-girls teams in the Northern Illinois Hockey League.
