Park Ridge's 53-year-old rink, rebuilt in 2025
Oakton Ice Arena at 2800 W. Oakton had served Park Ridge skaters for 53 years by the time its mechanical systems, ice floor, dasher boards and building envelope had all outlived their useful life. After a five-year planning process from 2017 to 2022, slowed by the pandemic, the park district broke ground in March 2024 and opened the rebuilt Oakton Sports Complex in August 2025.
The complex pairs a completely renovated main rink with a new studio rink, an indoor turf field, a training room, a walking track, multipurpose rooms and concessions with an outdoor patio, and it was built to meet ADA and Illinois accessibility codes. A 638 kW solar array of 1,082 panels on the turf and studio rink roofs is now active.
Oakton is home to the Northern Express Hockey Association's travel teams, the Park Ridge Speed Skating Club, which has been skating for more than 40 years, and the park district's year-round skating school.
