Rebuilt and reopened in September 2020
The Glenview Community Ice Center reopened in September 2020 after a $29.4 million renovation that Glenview Park District voters approved at a bond referendum in March 2018. The old ice center covered 49,840 square feet and had one NHL-sized rink and one half-size studio rink. Skaters first used the new ice on September 8, 2020, at a freestyle session that started at six in the morning.
The 85,552-square-foot building has two full NHL-sized rinks, one of them with heated stands, and a 90-by-60 studio rink; large panels along the side let natural light into the rink without heating the ice. The Glenview Jr. Stars and the Glenview Stars, both park district affiliates, skate primarily out of the building, and the Glenview Blades synchronized skating teams are based here.
Sylvain Turcotte has directed the hockey program since 1987 and was inducted into the Illinois Hockey Hall of Fame in January 2020. Figure skaters return twice a year for The Freeze, a Compete USA event in mid-February, and the Chicago Open, a non-qualifying event in late July.
