Home of Northbrook-On-Ice since 1969

The Northbrook Sports Center is the Northbrook Park District's ice house: two year-round NHL-sized rinks under one roof, with dance rooms, a concession stand and party and meeting rooms, plus an outdoor swimming pool. It is one of the busiest sports venues on the North Shore.

The village became known as the speed skating capital of the world after two skaters who trained here won gold at the 1972 Winter Olympics, and in 1995 the park district and the Northbrook Speed Skating Club honored 17 Olympic speed skaters from Northbrook. The district's skating school has run for more than 40 years and has produced many national-level skaters.

The building's signature event is Northbrook-On-Ice, an annual show that has played to spectators since 1969 and has been called the best amateur ice show in the country; over the years the Ice Capades and Ice Follies sent scouts to it looking for talent. The Icettes, a dance-on-ice group unique to the Sports Center, perform in the show, and the synchronized teams of Teams Elite, a park district affiliate, skate a season that runs from May to February.
