Built in 1975 as the Memorial Park Ice Center
Sertich Ice Center was built in 1975 as the Memorial Park Ice Center. In 1986 it was renamed for Mark “Pa” Sertich, its handyman and a friend to generations of skaters and hockey players. When Colorado Springs' downtown Plaza Ice Chalet was open, from 1984 until its closing on March 9, 1994, Sertich was the only other place in town offering public skating.
The 35,000-square-foot building has an NHL regulation-size ice surface and bleacher seating for up to 2,000. Programs include Learn to Skate classes, drop-in hockey, figure and public skating sessions, parties and ice rentals.
In 2020, the NHL, the Colorado Avalanche and Athletica Sports Systems marked the Stadium Series festivities with a legacy project at Sertich: a prototype board system and donated gear for sled hockey, plus a free clinic. Colorado Sled Hockey, the Warrior Avs and the Colorado Springs Tigers took part.
