Calmar's only indoor ice, home to West 39 Minor Hockey and a men's league, now under review as it ages.
The Mike Karbonik Arena at 5019 47 Street is home to the West 39 Minor Hockey association, Calmar Pond Hockey, the Calmar Skating Club and RHA Hockey, along with the Cubs, Stars, Crusaders, Good Timers and Blades of the men's league. Ice programming begins in September and runs to the end of March, and from April until August the arena switches to dry-floor programming.
The building is nearing the end of its lifecycle, and the Town of Calmar is weighing the site's future, with options that range from repair to repurpose or replacement. No decision has been made and no direction has been set; the Town says the arena is not being closed or sold, and that looking at non-ice options does not mean ice has been ruled out.
Residents answered a community survey from August 14 to September 11, 2026. Catalyst Communications is compiling the responses into a What We Heard report for Council to review in late fall 2026, and the report will then be shared with the public.
