Aarau's KEBA, founded as a cooperative in 1958
The Kunsteisbahn Aarau, known as the KEBA, began as a cooperative founded by private initiators in 1958; the first rink was built on land of the Ortbürgergemeinde Aarau, on Suhr soil. More than two million people have put on skates on its ice since it opened.
The hall was built before the 1976 ice hockey B World Championship, when it held 6,300 spectators with extra stands for Switzerland against Japan. In 1994 the technical plant was renovated, and in 2016 the whole facility was renewed. The operating company KEBA Region Aarau AG is held 75 percent by the city of Aarau, 15 percent by Suhr and 10 percent by Buchs.
School classes and recreational skaters share the ice with the Argovia Stars and the Eislaufclub Aarau, and skaters can use either the hall or the covered outdoor field.
