Artificial ice since 1970, under a roof since 2009

Skating in Haunstetten used to happen on natural ice. The artificial-ice rink opened in 1970, at first without a roof, and since Haunstetten became part of Augsburg in 1972 the city has maintained and run it.

The ice measures 60 by 30 metres. In 1996 it was covered in a pilot project with an inflatable, cable-supported air hall, and a closed hall was built in 2009, so skating no longer depends on the weather. Augsburg's city lexicon describes the stadium as having about 800 standing places along the boards.

Many figure-skating and ice-hockey clubs train in the hall. Hobby skaters, school classes, families and clubs share it from September to March for skating, ice-stock shooting and ice hockey. Public skating in the city is offered here and on the outdoor Bahn II of the Curt-Frenzel-Stadion.
