A 1964 outdoor rink, roofed in 1977 and renamed the Vorarlberghalle
Feldkirch's skating tradition began in 1906 on the Levner Weiher, and the town's first ice hockey team was founded in 1932 on the Leonhardsplatz. After seven years of effort, the Vorarlberger Kunsteisbahn "Breiter Wasen" opened in 1964. It was roofed in 1977/78 and renamed the Vorarlberghalle, with room for 6,500 spectators.
The hall was rebuilt again in 2000: the grandstand was reshaped, catering areas were enlarged and the dressing rooms renewed. Today it is the home of Pioneers Vorarlberg, a professional club founded in 2022 that plays in the ICE Hockey League, and of VEU Feldkirch. Derby games against EHC Lustenau and EC Bregenzerwald have filled the stands for years, and a league record of 5,056 spectators was set on 2 January 2020.
Figure skaters and hobby hockey clubs use the ice as well, among them the Feldkircher Eislaufverein Montfort. An open-air ice surface, the Stellafeld, is connected to the hall's ice, though it is currently closed.
