A 1,800 m² rink laid out in front of the skating club each autumn

The Kunsteislaufplatz Gastra is a seasonal open-air rink run by the municipality of Rankweil. Each autumn staff of the Rankweil Bauhof turn the area in front of the Eissportverein into an artificial ice surface of 1,800 square metres, and the Rankweil basilica is in view while skating.

The season traditionally opens with a Sunday of free entry: on 17 November 2024 visitors tried the freshly prepared ice at no charge, and on 26 November 2023 the municipality did the same.

Local clubs share the ice. HC Samina Rankweil, HC Walter Buaba and the Eissportverein Rankweil welcome new members, and the municipality runs skating courses with the Eissportverein in the Christmas and semester holidays. The rink is included in the Familien-Erlebniskarte Vorderland.
