The Rheintal's ice hall, shared by four communes
The Eishalle Rheintal at the Sportzentrum Aegeten in Widnau is run by an association of the communes Au, Berneck, Diepoldsau and Widnau. According to the SC Rheintal's own timeline, the Eishalle Mittelrheintal was built in 1979, fifteen years after the club was founded in 1964 as the SC Mittelrheintal, the only ice hockey club in the St. Gallen Rheintal. In 2023 the communes of Widnau, Diepoldsau, Berneck and Au-Heerbrugg voted yes to building the new and only ice hall of the Rheintal.
The hall serves ice hockey, figure skating, training camps and public skating, and in summer it hosts music, sport and other events. The Eislaufverein Mittelrheintal, a figure skating club of about 200 members, holds its Show on Ice in November, the Zubi Cup in February and the Swisscup Widnau in February.
