Fribourg-Gottéron's arena, rebuilt in 2020

The BCF Arena was built in 1982 as the Patinoire Saint-Léonard, designed by the architect Serge Charrière and paid for by the city. It was inaugurated on 25 September 1982 with 7,500 places, and HC Fribourg-Gottéron, the National League club, plays its home games here. In 1984 the hall received Pope John Paul II.

The Banque cantonale de Fribourg gave the arena its present name in August 2010. Between September 2018 and September 2020 the hall was rebuilt, and the new arena opened on 1 October 2020 with a match against the SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers. At its opening it held 8,934 places, 2,540 of them standing, under a roof covered by 3,770 square metres of solar panels.

Capacity has grown since, to 9,620 spectators for the 2026 season. In May 2026 the arena was the second venue of the ice hockey World Championship, beside the Swiss Life Arena in Zurich.
