Named after its founder Heinz Schneider

The Heinz-Schneider-Eisstadion in Geretsried was originally conceived as an open ice surface and was modernised and roofed several times over the years. It is the home of the ESC Geretsried, whose River Rats ice-hockey team belongs to a club founded in 1958, and it has been the setting of many memorable games and events.

The stadium is named after Heinz Schneider, a formative figure in Geretsried ice hockey: through his tireless commitment the stadium was built, and it was later named in his honour.

In recent years it has been extended and modernised repeatedly, and the most important projects were a new stand, a modern refrigeration plant and larger changing rooms. The River Rats are a traditional ice-hockey team based in the town, and the stadium has played an important part in its sporting and social development.
