A village-square rink whose 1967 cooling is being replaced

The ice rink of Wengen lies on the Wengiboden village square, and the cooling pipes under its ice field date from 1967, several years past their expected lifespan. The village is therefore rebuilding the rink area: the first phase, covering the curling hall and the ice rink area, is planned for spring to autumn 2026, and the rink stays closed until December 2026.

The rebuilt ice surface is to use mobile cooling elements with an environmentally friendly coolant, and the mobile field is meant for free skating and as a curling field. The refreshed curling hall keeps three covered rinks. A second phase in spring to autumn 2027 redesigns the village square, and the plans keep the whole square open to spectators of the Lauberhorn race.
