Höchstadt's Alligators rink, renewed and reopened in November 2025

Ice hockey was played in Höchstadt an der Aisch under the ESC Höchstadt in the 1970s and 1980s, mostly as a recreational sport. The Höchstadter EC, nicknamed the Alligators, was founded in 1993 to raise the profile of the game and compete more seriously. In the 1990s the ice stadium at Kieferndorfer Weg regularly drew more than 1,000 spectators, and for a promotion round against EHC Bad Aibling and ESC München's team it was packed so tightly that extra stands were built.

The stadium's technical systems dated from the 1970s. The Alligators won the Bavarian title in 2000/01, which brought promotion to the Regionalliga Süd and, with it, Plexiglas boards and a new seated stand along the far side.

The Eissporthalle reopened in November 2025 after a comprehensive renovation. Its 1970s technical plant was completely replaced, a new ice surface with modern refrigeration and new boards was built, and the outer shell got a new facade and a photovoltaic roof. The work was partly done while the rink stayed in operation.
