Thuringia's largest covered mobile rink, back every winter

Eiswelt Jena is a pop-up rink that comes back every winter to the car park of the Ernst-Abbe-Sportfeld. In 2026 its operator promises Thuringia's largest covered mobile ice surface, 850 square metres, almost twice the size of the previous year's rink.

A roof keeps the rink open in any weather, and the hall is heated to 0 degrees when it turns colder outside. A professional ice machine resurfaces the ice several times a day. The rink is designed for leisure and family skating, and most guests are occasional skaters or beginners; school classes and groups of 15 or more can register for weekday mornings. Decorated stands sell winter food and hot drinks around it.

Weekends, public holidays and school holidays are the busiest days, and the rink says it cannot predict how full an afternoon will be.
