Rhineland-Palatinate's only open-air ice stadium

The Eisstadion Ludwigshafen has been the home of the Eis- und Rollsport-Club Ludwigshafen for more than 50 years, and the club runs it. The club was founded in 1969 and the stadium opened two years later, in 1971. It is the only open-air ice stadium in Rhineland-Palatinate, and plans for a roof came up repeatedly but failed on the cost.

Apart from a few employees, club members run and maintain the stadium as volunteers. An ammonia accident in 2016, which the club did not cause, damaged the small rink so badly that only the large rink has been usable since. About 300,000 euros went into the refrigeration plant in 2025, and in the 2024/25 season more than 40,000 people visited.

The club's first team began in the Regionalliga, then the third tier, and its active teams now play in the DPL (Die Players Liga).
