The Finnish-designed ice palace that hosted the 2007 World Championship and a KHL home arena
Arena Mytishchi opened on 15 October 2005 as a sports and entertainment complex for up to 8,000 people. Its design was based on a project by the Finnish company Skanska East Europe, and its architecture combines a metal facade with large areas of glass. Two arenas with a combined area of more than six thousand square metres sit alongside foyers, a sports bar, six banquet halls and twenty-six VIP boxes.
In 2007 the palace hosted the Russian Figure Skating Championships and the IIHF World Championship. A hotel opened on the grounds in 2013 and a new universal complex with sports and dance halls followed in 2014. The arena stages regular Kontinental Hockey League matches, and it has run night skating parties called Ice Party for young people.
The arena says more than six million visitors have come through its doors since it opened. Its home hockey side, Atlant, formerly Khimik, plays its home matches before full stands.
