The twin cities' ice complex at the Donaubad, opened on 15 November 1975

The ice complex at the Donaubad opened on 15 November 1975, with a single outdoor rink. Ulm's and Neu-Ulm's mayors cut the ribbon together with Norbert Schramm, later a double European figure skating champion. A second, roofless rink came into use in 1982, and in 1990, after almost two years of building, the Eissporthalle opened over it. Since then the complex has had two ice surfaces, one in the hall and one outdoors.

A few dates mark the building's life. An ammonia leak in the refrigeration plant in 1996 closed it for weeks of repairs, and after two floods a flood wall went up in 2007. In 2012 the hall got ice all year round, and in 2018 its timber roof structure was renovated over several months. The cities of Ulm and Neu-Ulm founded Donaubad GmbH in 2016, which runs the ice alongside the pools. In the 2022/23 energy crisis only the hall stayed open, with the outdoor rink closed.

Four local ice clubs train here alongside public sessions. In summer a special sports floor is laid in the hall, and the German inline hockey championship final took place on it in 2023. The complex marked its 50th anniversary with a jubilee season in 2025/26.
