A 1948 stadium in the centre of Olomouc, roofed in 1967 and once the stage for a 15,000-strong crowd
Olomouc's winter stadium, nicknamed Plecharéna, opened on 25 January 1948. According to the club, it was the seventh artificial ice surface in what was then Czechoslovakia. The hall was roofed in 1967 and rebuilt in 1980 with new stands and cladding, and the ice surface measures 59.5 by 29.5 metres.
In the 1950s the hockey side Křídla vlasti Olomouc was among the best teams in Czechoslovakia. The stadium's record crowd came for the Alexandrov Ensemble, a Soviet choir and dance group that drew more than fifteen thousand people. Figure skating took root here too: the dance-pair siblings the Romanovs, the most successful in Czechoslovak history, grew up on the Olomouc ice.
The club's history page adds that the early 1990s brought seven extraliga seasons, crowned by the Czech championship title. The hall now holds 5,500 people, 3,800 seated and 1,700 standing, and belongs to the city of Olomouc.
