A 1970s rink, roofed in 1979, leased by the hockey club

Hockey in Uničov began in the 1950s on natural ice on an outdoor pitch, but the weather allowed only a limited number of days, so construction of an artificial ice sheet started in 1973. People first skated on it in the autumn of 1974, the stands and facilities were added in 1977 and 1978, and in 1979 a roof was built over the whole stadium, giving the winter stadium its present form.

The hockey players belonged to the local sports union, where football came first. A lack of money and the wish for independence led in 1996 to the founding of a separate hockey club, which has leased the stadium since that year. In 1997/98 its men's team won the regional first-class championship and beat HC Klatovy in a play-off to enter the II. NHL, the third-highest national league.

Since 1997 the club has fielded every youth category, and more than 200 children train in its teams, with the older groups playing league matches against youth centres such as Zlín, Vsetín and Olomouc.
