Kanku Ice Arena, a rink built by Osaka skaters on reclaimed land and opened in 2019
The Kanku Ice Arena was founded on 21 June 2016 as a general incorporated association, led by the Osaka skating federation, with the aim of building a town around a skating rink. Izumisano city ran a crowdfunding appeal to pay for the final design, and the arena opened in December 2019 together with its ice park.
Its main rink is 60 by 30 metres to the standard of the International Skating Union, and part of the ice can be hired as curling sheets. In March 2020 the Sports Agency recognised it as a National Training Centre for figure skating, and in July 2022 it launched the KANKU SKATING CLUB to train skaters aiming for the world stage. A wing building was completed in September 2023 and the arena hosted the ISU Junior Grand Prix in Osaka.
A rest area has windows onto the ice, and the building is kept at about 10 degrees, so the arena asks skaters to dress warmly.
