Norway's first artificially frozen skating track

Valle Hovin stadion opened in 1966 as Norway's first artificially frozen skating track and was officially inaugurated in 1969 with a new grandstand for 5,000 people. It served as the reserve track for Bislett stadion during the sprint world championships in 1973 and the allround world championships in 1989, was the arena for the bandy world championship finals in 1985, and hosted the sprint worlds itself in 1992.

The old track dating from 1967 was torn down and rebuilt in 2021 to 2023, and the stadium officially reopened on 10 February 2024. The new ice surface covers 10,690 square metres and holds a 400 metre speed skating track with a bandy rink inside the oval. The footbridge to the ice was replaced by an underground access with three toilets and a large technical room, and the rink can use areas of the neighbouring Intility Arena. Aktiv Skøyteklubb and Lilleborg Idrettsklubb use it daily, and outside winter it is a concert ground.
