Free ice beside Oslo Skatehall

Voldsløkka is a large sports ground in the Sagene borough, and its name goes back to a lawyer, N.E.R. Wold, who in 1780 leased a plot under the Bjølsen farm. A railway line planned in the late 1800s never came, but the plan stopped other building and so kept room for Voldsløkka as it is today. Oslo's deputy mayor from 1945 to 1948 arranged for sport to be built up here.

The artificial-ice rink lies along Stavangergata between the Margarinfabrikken kindergarten and Oslo Skatehall. It opened to the public in the winter of 2017/18, and a clubhouse with kiosk, warming room, toilets and changing rooms followed. Sagene IF runs it for Oslo kommune and plays its bandy home matches here. The rink is free for everyone, with ice from 1 November to 10 March unless the weather makes it impossible, and floodlights until 22:15 on weekdays.
