Pegnitz ice sport since 1949, kept open by donations in 2023
Eisstadion Pegnitz is the home of the Eislaufverein Pegnitz, and ice sport in the town goes back to 1949. It began under the ASV Pegnitz and has been carried on by the EV Pegnitz since 1963. The artificial-ice stadium in the Konrad-Löhr leisure centre was finished in 1974 without a roof, next to a natural-ice stadium of 1951 that no longer exists, and the town of Pegnitz is its operator.
The club's senior team became Bavarian Bayernliga champion in 1976 and moved up to the Regionalliga. In 1984 it was Regionalliga Süd runner-up and went up to the Oberliga, and in 2022 it finished as Landesliga runner-up and rose into the Bayernliga. The club's stock-sport section holds a tournament on 6 January that it calls a big event in town.
In November 2022 the Förderverein Eissport für Pegnitz and the club presented a feasibility study and plans for a new Pegnitz-Arena. In August 2023 the club joined the Förderverein's call for donations to avert the end of the ice-sport site, calling the stadium a meeting place for families, pupils and young people as well as hockey fans. The response secured the future of ice sport in Pegnitz, and the operating company of the club, the Förderverein and private partners decided to keep the stadium running.
