A rink on a former pool site, with ice hockey in Schönheide since 1936
The ice rink in Schönheide lies on the grounds of a former open-air pool on the Neuheider Straße. The pool opened in 1936, and a natural ice rink was first set up there in the winter of 1939/40. The first game on it, on 31 December 1939, was between Schönheide and SC Astoria Berlin.
In the 1956/57 season the first team of the then BSG Aufbau Schönheide became Saxony state champion. In 2026 ice hockey in Schönheide marks its 90th birthday. The anniversary weekend brought almost 1,500 guests to the festival tent, and a U9 tournament with teams from six clubs was played on the ice.
The rink was given a roof in 1999, and by 2004 its sides were fully closed, which in effect made it an ice hall. In June 2013 the nearby Filzbach flooded the hall, and the water stood about one metre high inside. The first team has played in the Regionalliga Ost since 2017/18 and in nine seasons finished runner-up four times and champion three times.
