A foundation of Senator Hirschmann, opened in 1976
In 1973 Senator Richard Hirschmann, founder of the radio-technology works of that name, commissioned a foundation for the people of Esslingen to mark his company's 50th anniversary and his 80th birthday. The foundation of DM 100,000 was handed over on 3 July 1976, together with a ground lease with the city for the site below the Adenauerbrücke.
The first stage, a hall open at the sides under a plastic roof with an ice surface built to international standards, was inaugurated and opened to the public on 6 and 7 November 1976. A second stage in 1979 added changing rooms for the public and the sports sections, and the club counted more than 2.5 million visitors in the first 20 years. In 1984 the rink was named the Richard-Hirschmann-Eisstadion in the founder's memory.
A new wooden roof was inaugurated in autumn 1998, a solar plant went into operation in June 2006, and in 2011 the club built a summer stick-sport rink and new stands. The Eissportgemeinschaft Esslingen e.V. took its name in 1977, when the Eissportclub Esslingen joined the Förderverein founded in 1974.
