Artificial ice stadium built by the ESV Türkheim, after a pond rink in 1965

The Eissportverein Türkheim was founded on 5 February 1965 by 20 ice sport enthusiasts, who prepared a pond of about 150 square metres, the Grottenweiher, as their first ice and played with homemade sticks. Free construction machinery from a local firm and the US Army levelled a rink on the Ludwigsberg, but mild winters meant some seasons lasted only a few weeks.

That led to talk of a stadium with artificial ice. A natural-ice stadium in the sports centre was built from 1978 to 1981, with the club raising 420,000 marks itself, and it was inaugurated on 19 December 1981.

The dream of a stadium with artificial ice was only realised in November 1999, and countless volunteers gave thousands of working hours to it. The club now plays as the ESV Türkheim Celtics.
