1980s ice hall at the Lassalyckan outdoor area, where hockey and figure skating clubs train
Ulricehamn's ice hall was built in the 1980s, when, as the municipal councillor put it, there was in practice only hockey and plenty of time for the public to skate. In later years it struggled to serve the clubs that use it, and the local paper reported that around 400 members had been lost to the late training times that the lack of space brought.
In September 2012 a new ice surface and training hall at Lassalyckan got the green light at a cost of around 26 million kronor, after the first procurement had to be stopped for coming in 40 percent over budget. The plans were then scaled down again, and in early 2013 the lowest bids were about five million kronor under budget.
Lassalyckan is the outdoor recreation area east of the town, and today the municipality has two ice halls there. Ice hockey is played by Ulricehamns IF and figure skating by Ulricehamns KK.
