Varese's PalAlbani: built in 1975, demolished and rebuilt in 2021-22, inaugurated by President Mattarella
The Acinque Ice Arena, long known as the PalAlbani, owes its existence to Dr Ambrogio Tenconi, who decided in 1968, inspired by a trip to Grenoble, to develop ice sports in Varese. The building was finished in 1975, and its nickname joins palaghiaccio with the name of the access road, via Francesco Albani.
The roof was rebuilt in 1985. Works that began officially in 2021 ended the following summer with a complete renewal of both the ice and the pool areas, and President Sergio Mattarella inaugurated the rebuilt rink on 15 November 2022.
HCMV Varese Hockey has played its home games here since 1977. The building also holds a swimming pool and four indoor gyms, and the rink appears in films from 1979 and 1980.
