Opened in 2008; rescued from financial trouble in 2013 and again in 2018; a full NHL-size sheet
The Oregon Ice Arena opened in 2008, with Larry Clemens as its first manager. In 2013 it faced financial trouble, and a new non-profit board took over after the State Bank of Cross Plains forgave some debt and restructured the mortgage.
Five years later the bank would not refinance with the non-profit board, and nobody else wanted to lend to a non-profit. Clemens and Ben Cowan, who had managed the arena for nearly a decade, signed papers on December 20, 2018 to buy it, a move Cowan said saved it from foreclosure and made it a for-profit business.
The arena today describes itself as a non-profit 501(c)3 organization with a full NHL-size sheet. User groups including the Wisconsin Whalers and high school and youth hockey teams skate there, and hockey training and The Farm Gym operate out of the building.
